Hickory (Carya spp.)

Color: Heartwood, light reddish brown, sapwood white.

Characteristics: Very heavy, hard, elastic and strong. Toughest and strongest American wood in use.

Properties: Machines, burns and steam bends well. Tree deciduous, wood ring porous. No other commercially available Hardwood ranks as highly in combination of all the basic physical properties as Hickory.

Uses: Hickory is used successfully for tool handles, skis, bent plywood and much more. Hickory can also be manufactured into beautiful paneling and furniture.
